Four Labs Beer & Cider

Waking up this past Friday, I thought I’d been to every Michigan brewery. 410 and counting... Plans for my next brewery #411, were going to be Coopersville Brewing Company in Coopersville Michigan. They open Tuesday 4/20.

While perusing social medial I came across a post about a family farm in Petoskey. Gabriel Farms & Winery, and inside of that is Four Labs Beer & Cider. A small family-owned winery & brewery. Located just east of downtown Petoskey. The brewery sits on one of the most beautiful pieces of property I've seen beer made on.

If there ever was a dog friendly brewery this is it. Like me, you'll be greeted by the six family dogs. The dog theme runs throughout the brewery. Want popcorn? It’s popped fresh while you’re waiting. Served in a dog bowl.

The winery started in 2000 and in June 2020, mid pandemic Keith started the brewery and named it Four Labs. Quite fitting.

I decided to take a Saturday road trip. 500 miles there and back to once again be able to say I’ve been to every brewery in Michigan. Until 4:20 that is.

Four Labs has three beers on tap with ciders and their wines. I stuck with a pour of each brew.

Karen needs a manager Kölsch 5.2%

Wenny’s Wheat Hefeweizen 5.4%

Blueberry Yum Yum Ale 5.2%

Each were lite & clean, very easy drinking beers. That’s saying something since Keith, not a brewer by trade just started producing beer last year. With a little help from his friends at The Mitten Brewing Company and Mackinaw Trail Winery & Brewery. He found and installed a used brewing system from down state and off he went.

This summer Keith hopes to have six beers on tap in the down-stairs tasting room with his ciders pouring upstairs.

So, grab that leash and bring Fido. Relax with your beers inside or around a cozy fire outside.

Planning a weekend stay in Petoskey? Check out Gabriel Farms & Winery website for a place to stay. They have an Airbnb on the property. How nice would that be? Come back after a day of shopping, sight-seeing, or touring and there's beer 100 yards from where you’re resting your head.
