Boathouse Beer Co. & Boozery

I love this part of the state for many reasons. There’s obviously beer, I’ll get to that in a moment. Along with the delicious brew this area has some of my favorite outdoor activities close by.

South of the Mackinaw Bridge, my favorite camping is just a short drive from Tawas. Ausable River Camping inside the Huron-Manistee National Forests. Many different types of site to choose from. Drive in, hike in, or my favorite paddle in. Talk about secluded from the world! Mother Nature at her finest. Besides the boats cruising up and down the river, you may not see another soul all weekend. No power, no water, no problems.

There’s also great hiking trails near by. Check out Largo Springs or the trails around Lumberman’s Monument. Get those daily steps in. There are A LOT of stairs! Lastly, playing on the water. That goes without saying. Rivers, big open water, or inland lakes. The east coast of northern MI has your water needs.

Let’s talk beer. Boathouse Beer Co. & Boozery. LOVE the name! Boozery is an under utilized word. One that should be a bigger part of the American lexicon. Don’t you agree?

This brewery offers an amazing view of Lake Huron. Both inside and on the patio. The beers & food here were the best of my weekend tour. Their Wheat Gazer Honey Beer was an F’ing flavor explosion 💥 in my mouth. My flight and pint paired well with their brussel sprouts, brisket tacos. The Gravelly Shoal IPA was another favorite. There really wasn’t a pour I didn’t like.

I hope you fine yourself along the Huron Coast soon. Go out and soak in Mother Nature. Get out on a hike or paddle around for a few hours. Work up a big appetite then grab a seat, a beer, and an amazing view. You won’t be disappointed.

Always get sad when I’m having to leave a great brewery.
