Tucked away in the SE corner of Michigan, Pavlov’s Brewing Co. is the states southernmost brewery. Opening in March 2019, Temperance MI, is home to Pavlov’s. The hard work of John and Joan Groll. You can add them to the growing list of husband and wife brewery owners. Not only the owners but also the brewers of some great beers.
When I stopped in on Saturday, their first ever yoga class was just completing. Myself and 15 women drinking beer… You’ll hear zero complaints from this guy!
I had two of their usual 16 brews on tap. My first was the “SITTING PRETTY”. A malty, hop forward 8.5% Double IPA. Great way to start my afternoon. Then went with their “LAP WARMER”. This is an easy drinking 5% English Special Bitter.
Being 80 miles from home I did limit myself to just two. Not that that was easy by any means. Each of their other beers sounded tasty. With choices like DORTMUNDER LAGER 5.6%, IVAN REWARD IMPERIAL STOUT 8.2%, SHIFTED KILT SCOTTISH ALE 6.5%, or the TWO FACE BROWN / PORTER 5%. They do have a great mix of all different beer styles.
Pavlov’s doesn’t have a food menu but are very food friendly. Sometimes having a food truck outside.
Joan & John were both great to talk to. Besides talking beer and how good theirs are, we discussed many other things. Like being a new brewery on the block, distributing locally and in northern Ohio, the fight for taps handles in local bars, and some archaic food and beer laws each MI county has.
Make Pavlov’s Brewing Co. a stop on your next southern MI brewery tour. Or just stop in for a couple beers and collect your Tag-a-Brew or the 2020 Hop Passport.
