SALT SPRINGS BREWERY

Salt Springs Brewery

Two of my Bestest Friends asked if I could take them on a brewery day-trip. They also asked me to add a little extra fun outside of the beer stops. "We're pretty much up for anything" they said!

I replied “HAVE YOU EVER HUGGED A COW"?!?!

It was off toward Ann Arbor. My plan was 2 or 3 breweries. But before we hit Salt Springs Brewery in Saline & Townies Brewery in A2, it was time to get educated on the lives “or lack thereof” for most farmed animals.

Barn Sanctuary is located in Chelsea, MI right off of 94. Since 2016 Dan McKernan, his father, and his team of volunteers have been saving neglected, abused, or abandoned farm animals. At the same time educating the public about the awful treatment of most animals that are raised for food.

Myself, Lucy, and Tim had such a great time on our tour. Honestly the video or these words can't show just how much fun we had! Don’t be confused, this is not a petting zoo! These animals are not here for our amusement or pleasure. They're here because a large group of people with even larger hearts truly care how animals are treated.

Take a trip to Chelsea and meet Steve and Martin, my new goat friends. Or Stanley and the Golden Girls. Four turkeys that were saved from a farm in Ohio. There's also Mike, he's unfortunately 100% blind in both eyes, but living his BEST life!

I implore you to find your way to Chelsea and Barn Sanctuary. Take a tour, get educated, and donate. Or if you have time on your hands, volunteer! The animals will fall in love with you just like you will them!

After all the loving on animals we were in the mood for a beer. They were looking for places they hadn't been to before. We took a short drive SE to Saline. That's where you'll find one on my favorite churches in the state. Yes, one of many breweries that are utilizing an amazing, old building. Sit inside the stained glass. Sip OUTSTANDING beer, and eat something off the menu. Their menu does offer many vegan options. Tim ordered their Imperial Chocolate Stout, and I had the Kids In A Candy Store IPA. A nice break from the haze craze. This was malty, hoppy, and quite smooth! Lucy sampled our beers....

A short 9 miles direction north you'll find Townies Brewery in the heart of Ann Arbor. I had the Fort Detroit Milk Stout. 7% of malty, smokey, sweetness. Tim sipped on their Three Dog Night Imperial IPA 7%. Full of all the juice and citrus your taste buds can handle!

This was truly one of the most fun brewery tours I've done and we only stopped at two! I can say it was because of my passengers, all the laughter, and the great beers. In all honesty it was because of meeting the 2 and 4 legged animals!!!
